"Do you see what I see?" Many citizens of the Boundary will recall a stunning exhibition of Beverley Reid's fabric works, shown in the Grand Forks Art Gallery in the autumn of 2005. Who could forget the magical imagery of "Heart of Stone - Heart of Garden", those captivating collages of fabric and drawings that introduced us to Beverley's garden, and its astonishing juxtaposition of stone, flower, shrub, and grasses? Now arises an opportunity to see this magical garden through the eyes of four frequent visitors to the Reid property on their mountainside aerie. This exhibit displays images of the garden, through its several seasons, and transformations, as captured by local photographers: Jim Brockmeyer, Ken Flagel, Richard Reid, and Gail Russell. "Every garden is a place of dreams, and every gardener, a dreamer." * Photographers are dreamers too. This exhibit promises to show you images very much out of the ordinary. Jim' photography demonstrates what might be seen when lying prone on the earth, beneath the flowers, squinting through blades of grass to view their dance of light and shadow. Ken's images offer kaleidoscopic views of dazzling colours, streaming together in rainbow pirouettes. Gail's views will introduce you to a world so small it is rarely noticed, and Richard's impressions will transport you beyond this time, back to visions of gardens as executed in oil paintings by such as Claude Monet or Gustav Klimt, ever evoking incredulity and delight. "When you invite somebody into your garden, you are inviting them to meet you." * The "Shutterbugs" invite you on a return journey to share the photographers' dream perspectives. * - quotes from Freeman Patterson |
