     Mandate

The Grand Forks Art Gallery was established in 1984 under the auspices of the Grand Forks Area Arts Council. To ease administration, the gallery formed a separate Society in 1990.

VISION:
The Grand Forks Art Gallery Society celebrates Art as an essential part of the human experience.

MANDATE:
The Grand Forks Art Gallery Society's mandate stipulates two broad objectives:
1. A commitment to providing public access to the visual arts and a responsibility to foster understanding, interest and enjoyment of art throughout the community and region.
2. Building on these objectives, the Grand Forks Art Gallery Society exhibits, collects, documents, preserves, interprets and promotes art in all media.

The mandate indicates a commitment to the idea that the visual arts play a fundamental role in forming and fostering the regional and national cultural heritage. To do so, the gallery presents a balanced exhibition and educational program representing historical and contemporary works by established and emerging regional, national and international artists.
