General Mandate

The Grand Forks Art Gallery was established in 1984 under the auspices of the Grand Forks Area Arts Council. To ease administration, the gallery formed a separate Society in 1990.

The gallery’s mandate indicates a commitment to the idea that the visual arts play a fundamental role in forming and fostering the regional and national cultural heritage. To do so, the gallery presents a balanced exhibition and educational program representing historical and contemporary works by established and emerging regional, national and international artists.

Over 70% of the gallery’s revenues are self-generated. There are several fund-raising activities held throughout the year. In addition, membership, sponsorship and donations are an essential part of these revenues. The gallery has also initiated an Endowment Fund with donations and bequests providing a perpetual fund honouring its donors. The on-going activities of the gallery provide many opportunities for enthusiastic volunteers. We would like to hear from you, if you would like to be a Gallery Volunteer.

Membership in the gallery indicates a strong measure of support of a principal cultural organization in Grand Forks. As a member you will receive invitations to all opening receptions and events. You will be entitled to participate in the Art Rental Program and receive special discounts in the Gallery Gift Shop. And you will receive a reciprocal discount at several other B.C. art galleries.
